What is Okonomiyaki: Okonomiyaki Food is a Japanese savory pancake which contains a variety of ingredients. This name is derived from word Okonomi, and Yaki meaning cooked. The toppings and batters tend to vary according to the region and is the semi-liquid Okonomiyaki called “Monjayaki”.

If one wants to understand the literally terminology for Okonomiyaki it means grilled as you like it. It is a savory Japanese pancake which is loaded with veggies gets customized with also made easy through food particles left in the fridge.

In most of the versions Okonomiyaki is made with shredded cabbage and pancake--like batter which makes the similarities end. Some of the people like soft ingredients inside and others prefer a ton of fillings with batter which merely binds the ingredients together. There is no hard and fast rule for fillings and toppings with a great way to use the scrap from fridge.

The two general style of Okonomiyaki are:

1.Hiroshima style

2.Kansai style

Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki is layered like a giant omelette and it includes yakisoba inside with fried eggs on the top. Kansai style Okonomiyaki on the other hand is mixed together before being cooked like a pancake.

How to make the Okonomiyaki (Food recipe):

The Okonomiyaki recipe is a Japanese-style savoury pancake made with cabbage along with green onions and bacon. Different fillings could be put into the Kansai style food with whatever ways you like.

The ingredients are

. All purpose flour: 3/4th cup.

. Salt: 1/2 Tsp

. Chicken stock or water: 1/2 cup

. Eggs: 4

. Finely shredded cabbage: 3 cups

. Green onions, finely chopped: 2

. Slices bacon- Cooked and crumbled: 4

. Canola Oil: 1/4 cup

Toppings:

. Bean sprouts: 2 cups

. Green onion, finely sliced diagonally

. Dried bonito flakes: 2 cups

. Pickled ginger: 3 tbsp

. Toasted sesame seed: 3 tbsp

. Soy sauce: 3 tbsp

. Worscestershire sauce: 1 tbsp

. Asian style hot sauce: 1 tbsp

Step 1:

Stir the flour with the salt in a large bowl and at the same time whisk stock with eggs and whisk into the flour mixture. Fold the cabbage, onion and bacon which are sliced together into small pieces.

Step 2:

In the large non-stick skillet, 1 tbsp of heat along with oil over the medium-high heat and pour 1/2 cup of batter into the pan with pressing through spatula to flatten. Cook it for 3-4 minutes until the bottom gets brown and flip over the cook for another 3-4 minutes, repeating it with another batter adding more oil as according to taste.

Step 3:

Serve with sprouts along with green onion and bonito flakes, ginger and sesame seeds along with soy and worcestershire and hot sauce.

Step 4:

It is all about making pancakes.
